Reading Room is a touring theatrical encounter between a group of dancers and one high-profile actor per performance. Minghella himself was scheduled to appear on June 27-28, in Eastleigh.

Lunn is still struggling to cope with the shock of Minghella’s death, and considered cancelling the show as a mark of respect. “We were incredibly close. Friends said, ‘Anthony wanted you to do this so much. It’d be letting him down if you don’t.’ So I thought: ‘If I can’t do it with him, I can do it for him.’ ”

In Reading Room, the dancers do their stuff while the actors do theirs, reading from a series of short texts. These include an ambiguous Raymond Carver poem, the riveting Stirrings Still (the last major prose work by Samuel Beckett), and a glorious monologue from Minghella’s 1988 radio play Cigarettes and Chocolate.

Many of the thespians involved are household names: Juliet Stevenson, Miranda Richardson, Alan Rickman (27, 28 June), Toby Jones, Dexter Fletcher. All are friends of Lunn, 53, who in 1990 worked with Stevenson and Rickman on the Minghella film Truly, Madly, Deeply, in which he took the part of a ghost.

Alan Rickman The Perfect Voice

In a study commissioned by the Post Office, linguist Andrew Linn of Sheffield University and sound engineer Shannon Harris analysed the tone, speed, frequency and intonation of 50 different voices to formulate the requirements for the ideal voice.

The deep gravely tones of Jeremy Irons and Alan Rickman were found to be the best male voices, while the sultry husk of Mariella Frostrup and cut-glass pronunciation of Dame Judi Dench headed the female list.

The study found that the most appealing and trustworthy voices should speak no more than 164 words per minute, with intonation that falls rather than rises towards the end of sentences.

Alan Rickman Dirigirá "Creditors" en The Donmar.

The Donmar season will continue with Strindberg's Creditors, presented in a new version by David Greig, that Alan Rickman will direct, opening on Sept. 30 (following previews from Sept. 25) for a run to Nov. 15. Written in 1890 and described in press materials as Strindberg's most mature work, Creditors is a darkly comic tale of obsession, honor and revenge, and the production continues the Donmar's commitment to presenting European drama in new adaptations for a modern audience. Rickman, best known as an actor, has also previously directed My Name Is Rachel Corrie (Royal Court Theatre and subsequently at the West End's Playhouse Theatre and Off-Broadway) and The Winter Guest at the Almeida. Playwright/translator Greig previously provided the Donmar with a new version of Caligula, while his original play The Cosmonaut's Last Message to the Woman He Once Loved in the Former Soviet Union was revived at the Donmar in 2005.
